Welcome To The
Jack Russell Terrier Association
of America

THE AKC DESIGNATED PARENT CLUB
FOR JACK RUSSELL TERRIERS

THE JRTAA is an organization of breeders and members dedicated to the promotion, breeding, working and continuance of the traditional pure bred Jack Russell that was bred and worked by the Parson John Russell himself (1795 - 1883). The Association operates in full knowledge of the original purpose of the traditional Jack Russell Terrier as it was in John Russell's day, to hunt fox above and below ground. These activities dictated the type of terrier endorsed and supported by the Jack Russell Terrier Association of America.

The Jack Russell Terrier was recognized by the AKC on July 8, 1997. This recognition brings with it the surety that the Jack Russell will remain a purebred dog capable of performing his time honored tasks as well as being a fine companion. Into his repertoire are now added AKC Obedience, Agility, Earthdog, and Tracking. The JRTAA continues to offer Trailing & Locating, Racing/Coursing and, of course, Natural Hunting.

Membership in our club is not required for you to enter any JRTAA or AKC sanctioned events. Your dog must, however, be registered with the AKC. For those who do want to become more involved see the membership information in this site or contact the JRTAA.
